❒ KUET Central Library is the first automated library and pioneer among the public university libraries in Bangladesh and plays the key role to provide the knowledge-based support to its faculty members, researchers, students and all kind of institutional users of South-Western part of Bangladesh. The automation project was implemented by the help of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) under University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC,B). The Central Library is running successfully through KOHA-Integrated Library System (ILS), which is anInternational Standard Open-source Library Management System. Features include issue/circulation based on barcodes as well as other useful features. The most exciting part of the automaton is the web base. Students and faculty members can use the web module for OPAC Search, study and research purposes. Users can visit the Central Library from any part of the world.
❒ The Central Library has rich collection in the field of Science, Engineering and Technology. It is an open library system to students of KUET, which provides rich collection of books, journals, newsletter, thesis works and CDs. At present the library has more than 50,000 books, 9,475 e-books and 4,51,511 e-journals. The sitting capacity of Central Library is more than 250.
❒ As a scientific store house of knowledge of intense intellectual inquiry, KUET Central Library shares with the University the aspiration to be the most dynamic learning environment in the world.
❒ To provide access to information resources and services to the university communities of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) for teaching, learning and research purposes in the field of science, engineering and technology.
Patrons in the following categories may borrow items from KUET CentralLibrary.
❒ Undergraduate students of the KUET shall be entitled to borrow 3 (three) volumes (books of General stack) at a time for a period of one month.
❒ Post graduate students in the Masters level of the University shall be entitled to borrow 5 (five) volumes (books of General Stack) at a time for a period of one month.
❒ Research Scholars/ Ph. D. students may be issued a maximum of 10(ten) books and one bound journal at a time for six months.
❒ A Research Assistant will enjoy facilities like an undergraduate student after getting recommendation from the project supervisor.
❒ For the project/thesis purpose each group of undergraduate students will be facilitated to borrow 3 (three) additional books for a period of 21 (twenty-one) days, which may be reissued.
❒ Members must return their borrowed items within on or before the due date.
❒ A student can renew borrowed book(s) 05 times through online within 30 days.
❒ Items on loan may be renewed if no request is placed for those items..
❒ Holds may be placed for materials that are currently charged out.
❒ One can place hold through the online catalogue system.
❒ Borrowers will be notified for pick-up when the item is returned.
❒ Borrower can recall for currently loaned items in urgent need by contacting circulation desk.
❒ KUETCentralLibrary reserves the right to recall borrowed materials before the due date.
❒ Item(s) will be considered as overdue if any user fails to return or renew the item(s)within the due date range.
❒ Borrower will not be able to borrow if he/she has overdue.
❒ Borrowing privileges will be suspended until the item(s)is/are returned and the penalty for non-returned item(s)is/are paid.
❒ Notices will be served through e-mail to student/staff e-mail accounts.
❒ Borrowers are responsible for checking that e-mail account.
❒ Tk. 2.00 (Two) only per calendar day for each Book item.
❒ In case a volume or any other library materials is lost or damaged while on loan, the borrower shall be held responsible and shall report it immediately.
❒ The borrower will be solely liable for the full replacement of cost and accumulated fines for the item(s) borrowed.
❒ He/she shall be required to replace the volume within one month from the date of report of missing otherwise pay double amount of the current price of this volume or library materials as determined by the Librarian.
❒Guidlines about entering into the Library:
❒ Before entering the library the readers shall handover their personal books, sticks, umbrellas, parcels, opened or closed bags, attaches, portfolios, brief cases, newspapers and loose garments etc. to the Library Attendant at the checking counter against numbered tokens.
❒ Deposited materials will have to be collected from the checking counter on returning respective tokens at least before 15 minutes of the closing of the Library on the same day.
❒ Gate pass for checked out library materials shall have to be deposited to the Library Attendant at the gate while leaving the library. Library staff may check the readers thoroughly within the library or at the gate, if required.
❒ No one will be permitted to enter the library with fire producing materials.
❒ Books issued for study in the respective reading room shall not be removed elsewhere without specific written permission.
❒ Students will be allowed to the Stack on production of Identity Cards. Teachers, officers and research scholars are also allowed to the stack by introducing themselves.
❒ Reading room facilities shall be allowed to students after submission of identity cards.
❒ If any reader walks out of the Library with any Library property, the Librarian will report to the Vice-Chancellor for necessary action
❒ Loud voice, eating, drinking, smoking in the Library are prohibited.
❒ All library users are required to maintain a quiet and pleasant atmosphere in the library and cooperate with library administration abiding by Library rules. Library privileges may be denied to persons who behave otherwise.
❒ About rare Collections:
❒ Encyclopedias, dictionaries and other reference materials shall not, as a rule, be loaned out of the library but these may be consulted in the library.
❒ Reserved books shall not be lent out.
❒ Borrowers and readers are expected to check defects in any books issued to them and immediately call the attention of the library official on duty. Borrower shall be held responsible for any damage detected at the time of return and he shall be required to make good the loss.
❒ In case a volume or any other library material is mutilated or disfigured while on loan, the borrower shall be held responsible and in such cases, he/she shall be required to make good the loss and may be debarred from borrowing any further books from the Library.
❒ Periodicals or books, not sufficiently protected by binding shall not be issued from the Library except with the expressed permission of the Librarian. He may also refuse to lend out books which are urgently required by the teachers and students in the persuasion of academic work and/or research. These shall not be re-issued.
❒ No one shall be entitled to borrow books in more than one capacity.
❒ The Librarian may refuse to lend out books except to the borrower in person.
❒ Borrowing privileges shall be withdrawn from members until overdue volumes are returned and fines paid by them.
❒ For the publishing of the final result of any academic program the students must submit their library clearance to the controller of Examination.
❒ Audio-visual support of the library will be provided to the users deemed necessary to the Librarian or his authorized officer.
❒ Breaches of library discipline other than those covered in these rules shall be dealt with by the Vice-Chancellor on written report from the Librarian. If necessary, such matters may also be processed through emergency meeting of the Library Committee.s
❒ This section performs the major activity of collection development/ procurement of new library materials (books, journals, periodicals etc.) based on the recommendations made by the Head of the concerned departments. This task is performed by Library Administration section.
❒This section performs the major professional activities like Classification, and Cataloguing. The Library is using International Standard Classification DDC 21 st edition Scheme for classification, AACR II for cataloguing, Library of Congress Subject Headings for determination of Subject Heading. For Library Automation, books are catalogued according to MARC 21 by using Koha-ILS software.
❒ In circulation section, the users of the library can borrow the reading materials by using their Machine Readable Library Card. Under graduate students can borrow three (03) books, M. Sc, M. Phil and Ph. D students (regular) can borrow five (05) books at a time for one month. A student can also renew borrowed book(s) 05 times through online within 30 days. Teachers can borrow fifteen (15) books at a time for one semester. Officers can borrow two (02) books at a time for a period of one month. Class III employees can borrow one (01) book at a time only for two weeks.
❒ Dictionaries, encyclopedias, and rare books are generally kept in the reference section. This section is opened from 09.00 am to 5.00 pm. (Sunday to Thursday). Nobody can borrow any book from this section. But sometimes in special cases, librarian can give the special permission to issue these books. Users can use these books any time according to their needs.
❒ Journal section is one of the important sections for research purposes. As a research oriented university, central library collects huge journals on various fields. Library also subscribes journals on specific recommendations by the Head of the concerned departments. This section is opened from 09.00 AM to 5.00 PM. (Sunday to Thursday). This section also kept various proceedings, thesis on M. Sc. M. Phil and Ph. D. and dissertations.
❒ KUET Central Library has a large Newspaper Section, which kept 10 national and local daily newspapers for the users. This section is opened from 09.00 AM to 8.30 PM. (Sunday to Thursday) and also opened from 09.00 AM to 01.00 PM (Saturday).
❒ KUET Central Library has a Career Development Corner, which provide students many national and international books(BCS, IELTS, GRE etc.) for the development of their career. This section is opened from 09.00 AM to 8.30 PM. (Sunday to Thursday) and also opened from 09.00 AM to 01.00 PM (Saturday).
❒ The recent addition of central library is the Digital Library Access Center and it is established by Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) under a sub-project of UGC. It has 27 Desktop Computers with high speed internet connectivity for the library users. From this Center, users can browse, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) search and download e-resources (e-journals, e-books etc.). In a word, Digital Library Access Center can meet the demand of e-resources to the users of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology in an electronic way.
❒There is a large modern reading room in the Central Library where the students can study in a very good environment. In this room they can read all the books of the library. At present more than 100 library users can seat at a time for reading purposes. In this reading room, there is a Special Corner with well decorated which name is Bangabandhu, Muktijuddha o Bangladesh . In this corner, a huge collection on Biography of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh Liberation War, History of Bangladesh and Bengali Literature.
❒ Every user can photocopy their necessary materials from photocopy section. For photocopying, they have to pay by using a coupon which can get Departmental Store, KUET.
❒ Central Library of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology has one of the best e-resource centers among the Public Universities in Bangladesh. All Faculty Members, Officers, Staffs and Students of central library can get access to these e-journals and e-books without password from inside the campus through this website.
❒ Central Library is located on the Second and Third floors of the A Block at the New Academic Complex, which is situated near the sculpture 'Durbar Bangla'.
